Pat Miletich - The Croatian Sensation

Pat Miletich - The Croatian Sensation

PFS: Koliko imaš godina i koliko dugo treniraš MMA?
PM: Imam 36 godina i treniram više sportova već dugo godina. Počeo sam hrvati kada sam imao 6 godina.

PM: Zapravo, imam 46 profesionalnih MMA borbi.

PFS: Što čini MFS boljim i istaknutijim među drugim timovima?

Povesti ću svoju ženu i vjerojatno ostati najmanje 2 tjedna.
To što imam hrvatske krvi u svojim venama čini me vrlo ponosnim.

PFS: Hvala na intervjuu Pat.
PM: Hvala Vam što podržavate Miletich Fighting Systems

I prenašamo poruku:
"Tell Mirko I said hello and I look forward to meeting him very much some day"

Gordan B.

Have you ever been to Croatia and can you trace your heritage to any specific part of Croatia?
I have not yet been to Croatia but plan on coming sometime in 2005 with my wife and two daughters. My family comes from an area near Zagreb and I will get specifics from the older people in my family so I can search for relatives During my trip to Croatia.

How old are you and for how long have you been training in MMA?
I am 36 and my training has been in many areas for many years. I started wrestling when I was 6 years old, started boxing when I was 12, and started muay-thai andJiu-jitsu when I was about 19 years old.

In your fighting career you have over 36 mathces; which one would you single out as the most memorable to you?
I actually have 46 professional mma fights. I would say when I fought Andre Dudko of Russia who was 6 foot five inches tall, and weighed 250 pounds. I weighed about 170 at the time and I was very nervous. He was a very good kickboxer, and was really smashing people in the tournament we were fighting in. I ended up choking him out in about 2 minutes for the championship title in the tournament.

Have you ever felt you were robbed by a JD or a bad call?
No, I really never felt that I have been robbed. If a decision ever went against me I would think it would really be my fault for not finishing the man I was fighting.

Do you have any kids of your own? At what age would you allow boys to train MMA?
I have two daughters. Isabella is 2, and Kathryn is 4 months old. I would allow my children to train in MMA for self defense purposes only. I started fighting to pay bills for my mother who was Ill at the time so I really only did it for her needs. I would not allow my children to fight because they will have other options in life to make a good living. This sport is way to rough to watch one of my kids compete in it.

What makes MFS stand out among other teams?
I think the main thing is the brotherhood we all have with each other. I demand that my fighters treat each other as brothers and close friends. I will not allow them to bicker and fight with each other. This happens at many gyms and it is like a cancer that can ruin a whole team.

As a founder / trainer in MFS, what characteristics do you deem essential in training one of the best fighters in the world?
I think there are many aspects to coaching that are needed for training champions. Coaching takes allot more than holding focus mitts and a stop watch. You must be able to understand what motivates individual athletes. At times you must be their best friend and other times you must yell at them. You must also be respected by your fighters or they will not do things you ask of them. I never tell one of my fighters to do anything that I have never done before. You must also have accumulated a vast amount of knowledge from many years of fighting and training so you can give your fighters the amount of knowledge needed to be successful in this very complex sport.

How do you prep your fighters mentally for entering the cage or ring? In other words, do you think that some fighters are born with the right stuff or is it a thing that comes with training?
I prepare my fighters mentally for the ring by making their training harder than any fight they could ever have. I tell them I would rather fight a great fighter in bad shape than a bad fighter in great shape. This is what I have always believed and it has worked well for many years. It is important that a fighter has the right combination of drive, determination, desire to become a champion. I have found over the years though that a great athlete will not make it in a sport this tough unless he has the work ethic needed.

Being an MMA veteran for over 10+ years what is your health like nowadays?
My health is very good now. I had a serious neck injury about 1 ½ years ago while training for a world title fight that almost put me in a wheelchair. I was told by doctors that I had to have surgery but I decided to rehab it myself and I am now back to 100% I train with my fighters to help them get ready for their fights as much as I can so I stay in pretty good shape.

How do you see Mirko Cro Cop doing in the future, and do you think Tim Sylvia could offer him a good fight if the two were to meet?
I think Mirko is one of the most dangerous fighters in the world and I love watching him fight. I have always wanted to see him spend more time fine tuning his ground fighting. I do not know who teaches him on the ground but I think this is his only weakness. He would be unstoppable if he were to sharpen his skills just a little on the ground. Mirko gets paid money to be exciting and that is what he is, Exciting. If he ever wanted to train in the USA I would be happy to help him in anyway he wanted. Tim Sylvia and Mirko would be a very interesting fight. Tim is a very big man that hits hard, and Mirko is explosive and very fast. I’m sure it would sell allot of tickets if they were to fight each other. Tim is currently under contract with the UFC so I do not forsee this fight happening any time soon.

What are your plans for Croatia? When do you plan to come and for how long do you plan to stay? Do you have any seminars in sight and are you bringing anybody with you?
I have allot of big projects getting ready to happen in the states and will be coming in 2005 when I have finished them. I also train allot of police and United States military personnel so I be coming when I have finished those contracts. I will bring my wife and probably stay for atleast 2 weeks. Allot of my family has gone to Croatia but I have not been so lucky yet.

I also wanted to let the people of Croatia know that Croatian Americans are probably the most proud of all Americans I have seen of their home country. Everywhere I go in the United States I talk to many Croatians who are strong and smart people with allot of pride. This makes me very proud to have Croatian blood in my veins.

Thank you for your support of Miletich Fighting Systems.

Your friend, Pat Miletich
